Sony laptops

Sony VAIO laptops have always been slightly over rated if I may say so, being a Vaio owner myself, but there is something about the brand that makes you feel good. My Sony Vaio Notebook  is a simple black laptop, which to me looks like a large black biscuit, if only it came in chocolate I would have eaten it all up.

OLPCs

The government of India has signed an agreement with the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) project and will purchase 250,000 of the organization's XO laptops. The machines will be distributed to students throughout the country. India's decision to embrace OLPC is a bit unexpected in light of the country's past antagonism towards the project.

OLPC is a nonprofit organization that builds low-cost education laptops to sell in bulk to governments of developing countries. The project, first unveiled in 2005, has faced many challenges and has been forced to significantly cut staff and reduce the scope of its vision. Despite these setbacks, the program is still marching on and continuing to sell units as it works on an updated model and an innovative next-generation version.

OLPC launched a pilot program in India in 2007 with 20 XO laptops at a school in Khairat-Dhangarwada village in the state of Maharashtra. Although the pilot program was successful, the country's Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) was highly skeptical about OLPC, and expressed concerns about the health implications of prolonged laptop use among students.

The MHRD later reversed its views about the health implications of youth computing and launched its own dubious program to build a competing $10 laptop. Unsurprisingly, the $10 laptop never materialized. When the country finally unveiled its highly ambiguous plans for its $10 "Sakshat" computing initiative earlier this year, it was revealed that the device would not be a laptop and would cost significantly more than $10 to produce.

India has finally decided to adopt OLPC after all, despite the government's previous skepticism and plans for building its own technology. PC World, which spoke with OLPC India CEO Satish Jha, reports that the laptops will be sent to 1,500 schools. Jha hopes to ship 3 million laptops in India this year. PC World also says that a small roll-out will be taking place in Sierra Leone, where a human rights group is paying to deploy 5,000 XO units.

OLPC recently announced a hardware bump and plans to drop AMD chips in favor of the VIA C7-M. The update will also boost system memory to 1GB and internal storage to 4GB. Prototype boards are expected to emerge in May. It's unclear if the order placed by India is for the current hardware or for the updated version. OLPC is also working on a more ambitious 2.0 model which is expected to land in 2010.

In total sales and deployed units, OLPC still lags behind Intel's competing Classmate PC initiative. India's purchase of 250,000 XO units will help OLPC recover some lost credibility. It demonstrates that major buyers still believe that the program is viable and that the laptops deliver reasonable value.

As the computer technology advanced, the engineers managed to integrate all of the components of a desktop computer into a single unit, which is also much smaller, thinner and lighter. And this is how the laptops appeared on the market. There are many advantages offered by a laptop, and of course the biggest of them is the portability. Usually the people who are traveling a lot prefer to buy a  laptop, but today all sorts of people are buying one, whether if they are traveling a lot or not. But there are some disadvantages to laptops  too, and one of them might be the price. A laptop is usually more expensive compared to a desktop computer with the same technical details, and the prices for laptops can go as high as 2,000 dollars.

High Definition Laptops

Transformation of computer from its original massive form to the sleek and mobile entity is indicative of the trends in the modern society. In the context of changing lifestyles and resultant hectic work schedules it became imperative that devices should have mobility. Mobile phones and laptops are finest examples of the changing requirements of individuals in the given circumstances.

Laptops or digital notebooks are available in various ranges, sizes, colours with special or unique features. In conformity with the tastes and requirements of the demanding consumers, high definition laptops are in great demand to day. The full HD screen can offer crisp and clear images. With superb audio and video output, the digital laptop of minimum resolution 1680 x 1050 pixels is a good option. But for more comfortable viewing experience it is better to have one with 1920 x 1200 pixels. If the user wants to upload HD files from the laptop to a HD TV device, it will be necessary to have a HDMI port. The High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) will provide superb audio and video output in high definition format. In some of the laptops Digital Visual Interface(DVI) will be provided, but the problem is that it can offer enhanced quality to video content only and not to audio output. However, inexpensive converters are available in the market to enable conversion of DVI to HDMI.

High Definition laptops are now available under various brand names. Latest products with 20.1 inch screen that can offer 1080p HD TV with options of HD DVD or Blue Ray disc drive are becoming a favourite choice among consumers. This notebook, according to the manufacturers is packed with high definition features. Consumers can enjoy full HDTV movies in the portable device. Powered by dual processors from Intel and with hybrid TV tuners which can play both analog and high definition programs, some of the latest laptops are reasonably priced to make them affordable.

Holiday laptops

Taking a peek at the big Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales, there are plenty of big-screen TVs and cameras, but not quite as many laptops. That's surprising, because based on the extreme interest readers expressed for Walmart's $298 Celeron-powered Compaq laptop earlier in November, we suspect a lot of people will be looking for laptop bargains during the holiday weekend.

Industry watchers say many of the deals this year aren't particularly exciting, so you may have to dig a little deeper to find a bargain. Here are a few of the Black Friday laptop deals we spotted that may be worth checking out.

Toshiba Satellite notebooks

Linux-Dell

The pre-installed Linux on Dell Inc’s notebook and desktop computers may be coming before the end of April, DesktopLinux’s sources say.

â€Å“We still do not know which Linux Dell Inc. will be installing on its desktops and laptops. Among the distributions we know to be under consideration are: Novell/SUSE, Red Hat, Fedora, openSUSE, and Ubuntu. It would be safe to say now, though, that Ubuntu will be at least one of the Linuxes that Dell will be offering laptops.

Best Laptop-Note book

Since the notebooks are so popular these days, there are also many companies that are producing them. Some examples would be: Hewlett Packard, Asus, Dell, Acer, Toshiba, Lenovo, Sony, Fujitsu, Alienware, MSI and Apple. Each of them offers so many models to the customers, with so many different features and specifications, so it can be quite difficult to make the best laptop computer purchase.  Maybe a model is good at some features compared to another one, but it is worse at other features.

Best Laptop

The computers are really famous these days. They are used by so many people, of all ages and of all social categories. We can definitely say today in 2010 that the computers and the internet had become a very important part of our lives, and we can’t even imagine the world today without them. But since the computers are used by so many people, they are not so fashionable anymore...they simply become usual items for everyone. But there are other advanced computer technologies, that are not available quite to anyone, and which can be considered fashionable items. And we are talking here about the laptops, and all of their related products - netbooks, Tablet laptops, tough books and others. A laptop has the same components as any PC, only that all of them are integrated into a single and much smaller unit. So the biggest advantage of a laptop is its portability.

Latest laptops and different models........ here is a view of laptops of different varieties for you all.........

Sony...laptops

Sony laptops are of varied range and quality...... Its simple and superb with its  mind blowing features.......
Sony has rolled out a range of laptops based on Intel's latest 'Santa Rosa' Centrino Duo technology, sheathed in a range of "bold... eye-popping... fashion-forward" colors and equipped with a "pulsating" light that shines through the chassis to tell you what the machine's up to.

Sporting a luxurious, glossy finish and framed with silver, luminous trim, the Vaio CR notebooks reflect style and taste," the PR fluffs gushes, adding later that the CR is a "portable entertainment paradise".

Super pink

Its just a laptop of superb qualities, feature and reasonable price in market.........
Notebooks and Netbooks have almost flooded the world PC markets and due to its portability edge over the desktops, these are getting immense popularity among the masses. However, there exists a misperception even in the minds of experienced computer operators think that a Netbook is a small Notebook.

Toshiba laptops

It is extremely important to understand that a Netbook is not a substitute of a notebook and is far less smaller than a desktop computer. Netbooks and notebooks are totally different devices and which one you should purchase will depend on what actually is your requirement. It is therefore of utmost importance to understand them and be able to differentiate between the two. Below are listed some salient differences between the two:

First – netbooks are a lot smaller. A netbook screen goes from 7 to 10 inches – a notebook screen starts at 12.1 inches and can go as high as 21 inches.

Second – netbooks have less storage space, generally 4GB or up to 64GB – notebooks go from 80GB to 320 GB

Third – netbooks are not portable computers you can use for watching movies or videos or for playing games or using photoshop, Word or Excel – netbooks are designed for netcentric computing – i.e. stuff you do on the net that doesn’t require much power, surfing, reading and checking your email

Fourth – the processor in a netbook is generally an Intel Atom that runs at 1.6 GHz, it is not fast but it does the basics

Dual Touchpads

Asus’ dual touchpad technology is just coming onto the market now. As yet, we’re still not convinced of its usability, but you can bet your pinkies that the IT retail industry will be doing their best to convince us that we need it.

Laptop Screens- Transparent

We have transparent laptop screens......There’s a trick whereby you can put a visual on screensaver that matches your background, giving the illusion that your laptop  screen is transparent. That illusion has now become a reality with Samsung’s new 14 inch OLED, said to be the world’s first see-through laptop screen. Even powered off, it’s 40 per cent transparent. What’s to be gained by having a transparent laptop screen is questionable, but one thing is for sure, it’s certainly very cool.

Sony laptops

These days, there’s a bewildering array of laptops  available. At first glance, finding the one that’s right for you might seem daunting. However, it’s easier than you think if you forget the sales-speak, the gimmicks and the fads and concentrate on what that laptop can do for you.

Sort of User:
Laptop users fall into six general types. Once you identify which category you belong to, it’s just a matter of taking into account what applications you are going to be running, how powerful your machine needs to be and what connections you’ll need for your peripherals.
Home User

A typical home user will use their laptop for a wide range of purposes, from surfing and messaging to storing home photos and playing music. You might even be running VOIP applications, so the best machine will be a mid-range multi-purpose laptop. If the laptop is to be shared with other members of your household, portability may also be a factor in your decision.

Suggestion: Pentium Dual Core or Celeron processor by Intel with 2GB RAM, (try to stretch to 3GB). These days you’ll want a hard drive with a minimum capacity of 100GB. 250GB would be better, especially if you’re sharing with other users.
Business User

Business users will need something that can run typical office applications such as word processing and spreadsheets, so, again, a mid-range machine should suffice. Portability could be important, especially if the user is commuting with the laptop, or your job involves a lot of travel. Ideally, a business user will be looking for a sturdy machine that is capable of running any applications specific to their company’s business.

Suggestion: Core2Duo with a minimum processor speed of 2Ghz; more, if your company is using power-hungry applications. 3GB of DDR2 memory should do the job, along with a hard drive of at least 100GB capacity. Choose a machine with 802.11g wireless and a good battery life for working on the move.
Gamer

Gaming laptops might be used primarily for fun, but these are serious machines with state-of-the-art CPUs and high-end video cards – essential for running the latest PC games.

High performance means advanced cooling systems and many professional gamers believe only a desktop PC can deliver the goods when it comes to gaming. Powerful video cards tend to be bulky and games played on a laptop generally won’t have the resolutions of games played on desktops. Laptops do offer a next-best-thing solution for those who travel to participate in gaming events.

Suggestion: Get the highest spec machine you can afford. Look out for a high end video card with a minimum of 4GB of super-fast RAM. Serious gamers will have no choice but to go for a high performance desktop.
Design/Music User

To run design and music recording applications, you are going to need a high-end machine. More specifically, for music recording applications, you’ll be looking for a top-of-the-range sound card, perhaps with a break-out box for interfacing with instruments. Designers working with applications such as Photoshop will be looking for a powerful CPU and a high end video card. Both design and music applications require big hard drives for storage, masses of memory and a powerful CPU.

Suggestion: Many users believe that Apple’s range of laptops, such as the MacBook Pro are tailor-made for design and sound applications.
Desktop User

Laptops have come a long way in the last five years, both in power and aesthetically, which begs the question: why bother with a desktop PC at all? Generally, they take up much more space and involve unsightly wiring. Many of today’s laptops come with the same specification as mid-range desktops, so many users are replacing bulky, unsightly desktop computers with stylish high performance laptops. These machines tend to be a lot bigger than traditional laptops and obviously aren’t as portable. Large tiltable screens (sometimes with touchscreen functionality) of 20 inches or more are the norm, very often in widescreen format for watching movies.

Suggestion: Models, such as Sony’s Vaio series offer high processing speeds, Blu-ray optical drives and the power to run high-definition video. These are the sort of features you should be looking for if you are looking for a laptop to replace your home desktop PC.
Student

The ideal laptop for a student user will largely depend on the subjects being studied. Design, music and gaming applications will obviously demand a higher end specification. Most students, however, will want to combine portability along with economy, so if the machine is just for study, surfing and word processing applications, the best option here may be an ultra-portable Netbook. These are generally low power systems with a small CPU – but big battery life.

Suggestion: Small, portable and sturdy is important here if the machine is going to be commuting to college daily. A Netbook with a built in webcam would be ideal. For something with more power, something similar in spec to the business user’s model will be able to handle the most arduous student tasks.

Dell laptops

The best laptop  will depend upon how you intend to use the device – as you can find a variety of specifications that are suited for specific purposes such as Gaming Laptops, Multimedia Laptops, Office Laptops and Business Laptops.  Some popular laptop brand choices include Acer Laptops, Apple Macbooks, Samsung Laptops, Dell Laptops and Sony Laptops.

For the best deals on laptops, have a look at these popular online stores and high street retailers that feature some of the best money saving deals and offers to help you buy the best laptops at the best prices.

Slate

A writing slate is a piece of flat material used as a medium for writing. In the 1800s, writing slates were made of slate, which is more durable than paper and was cheap at the time when paper was expensive. It was used to allow children to practice writing. Thin slabs of slate, typically three inches by five (roughly 9 x 12 cm), were also bound into "slate books" for adult use in workplaces.Slates can be written on using a slate pencil. This is a rod made of soft slate, soapstone, or pressed clay, which makes a thin white line on the slate. Chalk can also be used. The writing can be wiped off with a soft cloth.Writing slates, although not made of the rock, are still used:
* Scuba divers carry plastic slates and pencils to communicate with other divers, to record facts underwater or read pre-dive plans.
    * Proprietary writing slates which protect young children and their clothes from the damage and discolouration potentially caused by paint, pencils and pens are used as toys or educational items.

Tablet PC

A Tablet PC is a laptop PC, equipped with a stylus or a touchscreen. This form factor  is intended to offer a more mobile PC; Tablet PCs may be used where notebooks are impractical or unwieldy, or do not provide the needed functionality.

The term Tablet PC was made popular in a product announced in 2001 by Microsoft, where it was defined as a pen-enabled computer conforming to hardware specifications devised by Microsoft and running a licensed copy of "Windows XP Tablet PC Edition" operating system or a derivative thereof. Tablet PCs are personal computers where the owner is free to install any compatible application or operating system. Other tablet computer devices, such as eBook readers or PDAs, do not provide this option and are generally considered another category. The original Microsoft licensing specification required proximity sensing of the stylus, which Microsoft termed "hover". This requirement was dropped with the later announcement of the UMPC.

Subnotebook

A subnotebook, also called an ultraportable by some vendors, is a laptop designed and marketed with an emphasis on portability (small size, low weight and longer battery life) that retains the performance of a standard notebook.Subnotebooks are usually smaller and lighter than standard laptops, weighing between 0.8 and 2 kg (2 to 5 pounds);the battery life can exceed 10 hours when a large battery or an additional battery pack is installed.

To achieve the size and weight reductions, ultraportables use high resolution 13" and smaller screens (down to 6.4"), have relatively few ports (but in any case include two or more USB ports), employ expensive components designed for minimal size and best power efficiency, and utilize advanced materials and construction methods. Some subnotebooks achieve a further portability improvement by omitting an optical/removable media drive; in this case they may be paired with a docking station that contains the drive and optionally more ports or an additional battery.

The term "subnotebook" is usually reserved to laptops that run general-purpose desktop operating systems such as Windows, Linux or Mac OS X, rather than specialized software such as Windows CE, Palm OS or Internet Tablet OS.

Laptop

A laptop is a personal computer designed for mobile use and small and light enough to sit on a person's lap while in use.A laptop integrates most of the typical components of a desktop computer, including a display, a keyboard, a pointing device (a touchpad, also known as a trackpad, and/or a pointing stick), speakers, and usually including a battery, into a single small and light unit. The rechargeable battery (if present) is charged from an AC adapter  and typically stores enough energy to run the laptop for three to five hours in its initial state, depending on the configuration and power management of the computer.

Laptops are usually notebook-shaped with thicknesses between 0.7–1.5 inches (18–38 mm) and dimensions ranging from 10x8 inches (27x22cm, 13" display) to 15x11 inches (39x28cm, 17" display) and up. Modern laptops weigh 3 to 12 pounds (1.4 to 5.4 kg); older laptops were usually heavier. Most laptops are designed in the flip form factor to protect the screen and the keyboard when closed. Modern tablet laptops have a complex joint between the keyboard housing and the display, permitting the display panel to swivel and then lie flat on the keyboard housing.

Laptops were originally considered to be a small niche market and were thought suitable mostly for specialized field applications such as the military, accountants and sales representatives. But today, laptops are becoming more popular for student and general uses.
